Nearly eight thousand NFT holders made their way to the Twin Cities last month for “VeeCon” — a four-day conference hosted at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis.
Focusing on topics like business, branding and entrepreneurship, the conference featured an extraordinary lineup of keynotes, Q&As, entertainment and collaborative experiences. But not just anyone could attend, conferencegoers were required to show a special type of NFT to gain entry. The conference was founded by serial entrepreneur Gary Vaynerchuk, best known for his social media presence, early investments in Coinbase and his “VeeFriends” NFT collection.
From Charge Up with Chipotle to NFT Land Presented by Pepsi, conference activations were produced by some of the world’s most renowned brands. While these experiences were certainly clever, nothing quite compared to Candy Grand Slam, a fully branded 40x40ft virtual pitching and batting experience located on the stadium’s main field.
To participate in the experience, conference attendees signed up for a Candy.com account using QR codes located around the structure. If you’re not familiar with Candy Digital, they are the official NFT partner of MLB baseball with a mission to change the world of sports collectibles. After creating an account, participants stepped up to the plate, where they had the option to virtually pitch or bat using real baseball equipment. Branded graphics and interactive leaderboards enhanced the experience, allowing players to see their scores in real time. Those ranking highest in each of the 10 daily pitching and batting sessions were rewarded with free NFTs loaded onto their Candy account.
Not only did the activation build brand awareness, but it also allowed conference attendees to experience what the brand is all about, making them more likely to choose Candy Digital over others in the NFT space.
